Bourbon Balls
This is a recipe that was given to me from a friend, who knew I loved bourbon and to bake. The thing is, there is really no baking at all. This is a great addition to any cookie platter or party. This does contain alcohol so be sure to keep away from little party guests.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Good Bourbon
- 1 cup Chopped Pecans
- 1/2 cup Pecan halves for top of bourbon balls
- 1 2lb Bag of powdered sugar
- 1 stick Butter, softened
- 2 bags Semisweet chocolate chips use a good chocolate like a Ghirardelli
Instructions
- Place 1 cup chopped pecans in a shallow glass bowl. Pour bourbon over the nuts, make sure they are totally immersed. Cover and let soak overnight or for a few days.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place pecan halves on a cookie sheet and toast them lightly for about 10 minutes.
- Cream butter in your mixer. Combine bourbon pecan mixture with just enough powdered sugar to form a stiff ball. Refrigerate until cold.
- Roll dough into desired sized balls. I like to keep mine on the smaller size so they are about two bites.
- In a double boiler or a saucepan with water and a glass bowl on top, bring water to boil. Add half a bag of chocolates at a time and melt. Dip balls in chocolate using a toothpick. Keep melting chocolate in little batches until dough is used. This will ensure a good coating and chocolate not turning hard.
- Place chocolate dipped bourbon balls on wax paper to cool. Top each with a toasted pecan half. Store them at room temperature verses in a refrigerator.
